All the following skills and drills have been created in co-operation with Peter Harold who is an Education Advisor with the New Zealand Rugby Union and created the NZRU Coaching Toolbox website. As with all plans on the GamePlanner website the plans can be downloaded for free.
Here are a few words from Peter on the philosophy behind the plans;
Throughout our rugby, coaches have to be innovative and constantly seek better ways of preparing teams and individuals in order to remain competitive and make rugby an enjoyable sport for all. These drills come from the 2002 NZRU Skills and Drills manual and CD Rom. It was not meant to be an exhaustive supply of drills to achieve these purposes, but more of a catalyst for innovative and creative coaching.
Feedback from junior coaches, through to our Super 14 and All Blacks coaches, was the primary driver in developing these drills. The message was clear. There was a real need for a resource that focused coaches on the fundamental skills of our game. If players and teams don’t possess these skills then the more advanced levels of our game can’t be achieved. We would like to think that the focus of a coach using activities would be, first the skill, and then the drill. Not the other way around! Repetition is a key part of fundamental skill development as is the coach being able to identify a skill deficiency then correct it through effective coaching.

Eventually the plans shown here will also appear on the NZRU Coaching Toolbox site which is at;
www.coachingtoolbox.co.nz/toolbox
The site offers information, skills and drills for a range of ages. Each age group is split between Skills and Drills. In some cases plans can be used in both.
The plans start at U7's.
