What is the GamePlanner system?

The system is a way to keep all your plans, drills and coaching ideas in animated form and all in one place. They are then easier to access and present.

If you want to create, save and download drills, paractices and training sessions use Rugby SessionPlanner
If you want to create moves from scrums, lineouts, rucks and mauls use Rugby GamePlanner
If you want a coaching manual on one of the world's greatest coaches use Rugby - Understanding the Moving Game"
GamePlanner products are ideal to help formulate your ideas. They are also an incredible powerful way to present your ideas to players, fellow coaches and on coaching courses.

GamePlanner can be seen as a computerised flipchart. You "draw" on the screen as you would with a flipchart. Unlike a flipchart, you can:

  • See your plans and drills in animation
  • Amend plans and drills
  • Save plans and drills
  • Email plans and drills
  • Download plans and drills

  • Each GamePlanner product clearly shows the lines of running and passes that make up your plan.

When complete you can see in Action! the plan you have created.
With so many tight, well-organised defences in all sports, space is at a premium. GamePlanner products help you identify that space and get your message across to players and fellow coaches.

We have incorporated well-known "drawing" techniques such as dragging and dropping. For example you can select the "Player" button and "Drop" the player on to the pitch. Then select the "Run" button. to drag out a line of running for that player.
The "Pass" and Kick" features work in the same way.
You can click Action! at any time to see your plan in animation. That way you can see if the plan will work and amend accordingly. When completed save your plan. You plan is now saved in your database. You can though:
  • Amend the plan
  • Clone the plan
  • Email the plan
  • Save the plan\s to floppy disk and CD

  • Within minutes you will be creating new plans and drills and developing strategies.

    Action! Books
Action! Books are a way to bring coaching manuals alive. A conventional coaching book can only give you diagrams and text. Sometimes the diagrams are not as helpful as they might be. With Action! Books you still get the diagram but if you click on it you can see the play, drill or practice in animation. Also, if the author has created a video clip for the plan, drill or practice you can see that as well. This gives the reader plenty of opportunities to digest the information. Our first Action! Book is by Lynn Evans RFU RDO and is called “Rugby – Understanding the Moving Game”. It is an explanation of the Coaching Methods of one of the worlds most respected Rugby Union Coaches, Pierre Villepreux.

The principle tools needed to create plans.
These are some of the basic tools of GamePlanner products. These tools are in all software. We have made reference to them here to give you an idea of what the software is all about. For more information, please go to the relevant product

    run
Place the crosshairs over the player you wish to make the run. Click the left-hand side of the mouse and hold. Drag the line of running to your chosen position and release the mouse. The line of running can be changed at any point by clicking "De-Select". Place the pointer over the player whose running you wish to change, left click, hold and drag to the new position. Curved or "J" runs can be made this way by making a run of, say, 30m out of 6 runs of 5m. You can then drag at a point along that line to create a curve of your choice. The player's line of running will be the same colour as the team.

    pass
A pass can be made from a player or from any point along the player's line of running. Just like real life. The system recognises when a line of running has been crossed and so you do not need to place the crosshairs on the line of running but slightly to one side. Click the left-hand side of the mouse and hold. Now DRAG the pass line to another player or across another player's line of running to create the pass. A continuous black line denotes the pass.

    kick
Place the crosshairs over the player you wish to make the kick, then click the left-hand side of the mouse, hold and DRAG the kick to any position on the pitch. Moving a player onto the ball at the end of the kick will attach the player to the ball, as though the player caught the ball. A kick is de-noted by a green broken line with a blue ball at the end.

    pen and eraser
This enables you to present your GamePlans using traditional methods or to highlight a particular section of play. Clicking the eraser button will remove all lines. Any lines drawn on the pitch will remain when running a plan through.

    notes
Clicking this button opens a window. Here you can name the plan you are working on and add details about the plan or any phase within that plan. Information on who created the notes and when they were created will appear on the screen. This is a very useful feature to highlight individual responsibilities.
